Musicing: A Study on the Experiential Meaning of Music

ABSTRACT

Music must be acknowledged as the fundamental process of the experience of making music. The essence of music can only be gained through the direct experience of music. This study attempted to explore 6 music experts who use music as musicians, educators and therapists. Through individual interviews, the existence of musicing in their lives was explored and how musicing was achieved with the flow of time and the significance behind the experience of musicing from a phenomenological perspective. As a result, starting from an innate capacity of man, musical experience from musical talent and environment has transformed to diverse forms of musicing. Through this process music has been experienced as a value of growth and a reflection of the identification of self, and an aesthetic value that must be inherited. This study endeavors to reach a new understanding of music, as an artistic medium that is intricately linked to humans by exploring the accumulated experience and consciousness of music of music experts. By exploring the multiple components of the experience of musicing and by comprehending the essence of music, the researcher looks forward to opening the discussion of the need for understanding the value of musicing in human life in a deeper capacity.
