ABSTRACT

The purpose of this study is to find out the changes of music education in special education and to suggest the way for future by analyzing the process of development. Research method was mainly literature research and the researcher examined through the seventh basic music curriculum for elementary school to 2015 revised basic music curriculum for elementary school. For the purpose, the researcher analyzed organization and operation, format and contents of curriculum. As a result, first, it is trying flexible operation through communication with various artistic areas and integration of education contents. Second, it emphasizes the role and importance of music education in special education. Third, it introduced ‘core competencies’ and suggested the necessary skills to develop through music education. Fourth, the curriculum was organized and operated by reflecting the characteristics and developmental stage of the students through step-by-step content or the introduction of the ‘grade cluster’.Fifth, it emphasized the enjoyment and utilization of music in daily life through the introduction of the ‘music in everyday life’ domain.
