The objective of this study is to examine teacher experiences of participating in a local professional learning community of elementary traditional Korean music and to explore the educational significances. To this end, an FGI was conducted among 6 elementary school teachers participating in community activities. Based on their participation experiences, this study suggests plans and supports for promotion of such learning communities. The following are basic findings of this study: First, backgrounds of participation in a professional learning community include attachment to Korean traditional music and desire for learning, formation of fellowship and intimacy, and self-development for growth. Second, changes and effects of such activities include learning and reflective introspection through cooperation, perception change and improvement of knowledge about classes, and improvement of self-confidence and efficacy of classes. Third, plans and supports for promotion of such activities suggested by this study include perception improvement and efforts for such activities, joint planning and operation of programs, and provision of spaces for activity and funding.
