ABSTRACT

This study proposes levels of musical experience, focusing on Dewey and other aesthetic views, based on the aesthetic properties of sound. Sound is a material of music. Sound is created by waves and transmitted to our ears by the medium. All sounds in natural phenomena have aesthetic properties. Music is an organization of sounds with aesthetic properties. Because of the aesthetic properties of sound, we can perceive and distinguish objects in the natural world through the auditory sense, and we are associated with an expression object or get a psychological inspiration in music. Levels of musical experience are determined by level of musical experience and degree of emotion of the listener. Accordingly, levels of musical experience can be proposed as first musical experience at the perceptual level of the sound phenomenon object, second musical experience at the representational level of the expression object, and third musical experience at the psychological inspiration level. This proposal is expected to have significant value in music teaching method that not only provides the basis for the musical experience in music education but also induces the aesthetic experience of music considering level of students.
