The purpose of this paper is to study the development of after-school music programs and its model. This paper is divided into three parts. In part I, We investigate after-school music programs, focusing on school`s extra activities in Korea. In part II, We introduce various music programs in United States. In particular National Guild of Community Schools of the Arts (NGCSA) is introduced. Three member schools of NGCSA are examined : ·Community School of Music and Arts ·Community Music Center ·Colburn School of Performing Arts In part III, We propose a new type of music institution which is a non - profit organization, providing after school music programs in Korea. It is hoped that this study may help to provide a high quality of after school music programs, offering the opportunity to study and learn to as many young students as possible.
