A Study on the Effects of Kodaly Music Method to the Development of Creativity of Elementary School Students

ABSTRACT

The purpose of this study is to find out that a effect of the Kodaly music programs for elementary school students`s creativity. To achieve the purpose, I have run parallel with both of the literature study and empirical study. In order to test the questions, randomly sampled out from 2 elementary students music institution (city G, Korea) were 31 Children aged 7~8 in total, including 16 experimental group members and 15 control group members. The instrument for testing the musical creativity was Wang(1985)`s MCSM(measures of creativity in sound and music) for children. For 2 days(July. 14th~15th 2003), I pretested creativity for experimental group members and control group members respectively. The experiment was done for 4 weeks(July. 21st 2003~August. 16th 2003), 4 times a week. The experiment group was conducted with Zoltan Kodaly`s music education program. After experiment, post examination was conducted for 2 days(August. 18th~19th 2003). The collected data were processed by t-test and the results which the comparison analyzes to a research problem are as follows; First. the Kodaly music education programs have an influence on a general originality of the children(p<0.05) Second, the Kodaly music education programs have an influence on a general imagination of the children(p<0.05). Third, the Kodaly music education programs have not an influence on a general fluency of the children(p<0.05). Forth, the Kodaly music education programs have not an influence on a flexibility of the children. (p<0.05) To conclude, Kodaly Music Education Program is effective to elementary school students`s creativity.
