Most of music colleges mid universities in Korea require non-pianomajor music students to take piano lessons under the title of 'piano fornon-piano majors', 'the secondary piano' or 'class piano'. In operatingthese classes, many gaps and disagreements are found in their teaching style, materials, method, content and assessment. Furthermore students and teachers don`t realize the importance of these classes. The purpose of this research is to examine how these classes are operated in 51music colleges and universities in Korea and to find suggestions forcollege non-piano major music students to have better piano learning.According to the result of the survey, there have been gathered severalinformation and suggestions to operate the secondary piano or the class piano more effectively. Firstly, it is strongly suggested to increaseamount of lesson time. Secondly, it is necessary to develop a pianomethod or teaching materials for the college non-piano major collegemusic majors. And thirdly, students are required to change their attitude and value toward the secondary piano class. Despite the short history of piano instruction in Korea and inadequatematerials, Korea has produced a number of world-class pianists and musicians who have played important roles in performance and education.Korean piano instruction has been developed enormously in a shortperiod. However, Korean piano instruction was a product of elite-oriented focusing only for advanced pianists, not for general music students. Now it is the time to realized the seriousness of the situation and need to diverse teaching philosophies and strategies. In addition, individual instructors for class piano or required-piano need to develop proper teaching materials and strategies to cope with the current circumstances.
