New Change of Music Teacher Standards in the United States

ABSTRACT

The purpose of this was to investigate the changes of music teacher education in United States. The trends and characteristics of standards for music teacher education were identified though the analysis of standards of NBPTS, NCATE, INTASC, NASM, and three states(Michigan, Indiana and Illinois). The characteristics of music teacher standards in United States are appearance of new knowledge for professional development, expansion of practical experience in schools, reflective practices for teacher development, and application of systematic and practical evaluation. The results of this study suggests a desirable direction for the future development of music teacher education in Korea.
