The Effects of Traditional Music Activities Using Traditional Nursery Rhymes on Young Children`s Creativity and Jangdan Skills

ABSTRACT

The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of Korean traditional music activities through tl1e traditional music rhymes on young children's creativity and Changdan ability. The subjects of this study were a total of 40 young chlildren at age 5 who were in Y kindergarten and W kindergarten located in Chonnam(20 for experimental group and 20 for control group). Research tool for measuring young children ' s creativity, 'Early Childhood General Creativity Test(K-CCTYC) ' developed by Jeon Kyw1g- won (1999) was used. ' Young Childhood Korean Traditional Music Ability Test' developed by Park Hyeong-sin's(2006) were used as the tool for measuring young children's Changdan ability. The results of this study are as follows: First, the experimental group participated in traditional music activities through traditional nursery rhymes had significantly higher score in all of the sub-categories of creativity. Second, the experimental group had statistically higher score in the Changdan ability than the control group.
