The Inquiry into Young Children`s Reaction in the Process of Integrated Music Education Activity to Help Musical Understanding

ABSTRACT

The purpose of this study was to inquire into the way integrated music education develops young Children’s understanding of music, through young children's reaction in the process of integrated music education activity. For the purpose, the integrated music education program, which the researcher herself developed, was administered to 35 5-years-old young children for 12 weeks, observing the participation & observation material, recorded material and photograph material that followed the activity. In conclusion, it was found out that integrated music education enables the young children to accumulate the knowledge of music and furtl1ennore utilize the accumulated knowledge. In the process of accumulating the knowledge, the young children come to know the shape and name of musical signs, and moreover to understand the relationship between musical sign and sound. Here the multi-sensuous experience that integrates more thru, two rather than one area was more usdful. Young children's musical understanding, in the process of utilizing the knowledge of music, came to deepen as they applied the knowledge that was accumulated in memory, modified and reconstituted the knowledge, and furthermore utilized the insightful perception.
