New Contents of Elementary Music Class in the Curricula of Hamburg in Germany

ABSTRACT

General music class in public schools has to reflect the trends in society. Therefore curricula for music class have shown great attention to the question of constructing contents how to adjust their guidelines to a social standard with the changes of times. This paper attempts to highlight variations of educational contents in German curricula for elementary music class which are kept in the 1970s and the 2000s in Hamburg.Both curricula which stay at a distance of one generation concentrate on motivating children to enjoy music culture. However the new one in the 2000s gives much more weight to tl1e consideration of music. Music lesson uses accordingly to introduce opp01i.unities which are a result or consequence of contact with music in daily life. Various themes should be formed as the central figure of music lesson in order to materialize educational elements the curriculum in 2000s contains.
