ABSTRACT

The purpose of this rese b is to develop listening test based on the text books and the teacher' s guides, so that they can use them for evaluation of music achievement. Listening test is expected to improve teaching method of music. In this research, music achievement test is developed by using sound of music. To get a reliable and valid test, we performed four experimental testings. 258 first and second graders from 5 schools participated in the study. The test items are presented classified according to types. The resulting test has the following characteristics: (1) A 15 minute of test is developed for each semester of the first and second grades. (2) All test items are made based on the text books and the teacher's guides. (3) The reliabilities of the tests are .63 for the first semester of the first grade, .83 for the second semester of the first grade, .66 for the first semester of the second grade, .74 for the second semester of the second grade. (4) The tests include 10 types such as distinguishing strong and weak sound, finding notes that are correctly played, finding continuing melodies. The following conclusions are reached: (1) It was possible to develop and administer listening tests even for the fast and second graders. The tests are effective to evaluate the students' music achievement in a short period of time. (2) Developing these tests require only PCs, MP3 players, and a basic music printing program. Teachers can develop such tests with a little bit of effort
