ABSTRACT

This research is designed to examine music textbooks of Korea`s First Education System, bibliographies of the era to re-establish the contents. This study has identified the following facts: the book list and the libraries that keep the books, whereabouts of missing books due to consolidation of libraries, textbook publication patterns, problems and causes of disappearance of textbooks that had once used over 10 years, problems and causes of multiple publication by the same publisher of textbooks that had the same contents, reasons behind late adoption of the Gregorian calendar, sudden amendment to textbook songs without regard to education system reform, issues of changes in content arrangement or book cover despite tight management over textbook publication, and bibliographies and contents of different publishers` textbooks. This research contributed to disclosing additional information and correcting wrong information about early music textbooks by thoroughly examining the first music textbooks. The textbook published by Soomoongak has yet to be unearthed to complete this study.
