A Theoretical Study for Developing Curriculum Model for Musical Giftedness

ABSTRACT

The purpose of this study is to examine the needs of systematic curriculum model for the musically gifted and establish a theoretical rationale for constructing curriculum frame. Based on definitions and theories of giftedness in general and finding of studies for musical ability development, musial giftedness is understood as a potential abilities which need appropriate environment in terms of family, education, culture and society. As a main subject matter of curriculum model for those musically gifted, musical giftedness should be unfolded through the whole process of education as a trait that need nurturing and development. Regarding curriculum model designing for the musically gifted, followings are suggested, First, curriculum should be rich in opportunity for learners to explore and expand wide range of musical intelligences and abilities. Second, curriculum should be designed in differentiated ways that both identify and develop high capacity in the broadest range and highest expertise in music. Third, curriculum should be flexible enough to address variability in how musical talent develops over time in a broad range of learners. Lastly, curriculum should be developed on the valid construct of knowledge system of music domain.
