A Study for Analysis and Improvement of Music Centered Secondary Schools

ABSTRACT

The purpose of this study was to analyze the current status of the music centered secondary schools and to suggest practical policy suggestions for those schools in terms of curriculum, evaluation, admission process, and facility. The objects of this study was 13 music centered secondary schools, including 9 middle schools and 4 high schools. To collect materials for analysis visitation to the schools, telephone interviews with the teachers who are involved in the program, and internet portal cites of the involved schools were utilized. Collected materials were analyzed in terms of four categories which the researchers had set for the study. As a result, following policies for improvement of music centered schools were suggested: first, the development of textbooks specified for the use in the music centered schools; second, the improvement of evaluation system adjusted for musically advanced students; third, need for the autonomous control for admission process, and fourth, continouous administrational support from national and local educational authorities in terms of finance and training of personnels.
