Academic Success and Performance Achievement of Music Majors in Korean Universities

ABSTRACT

The purpose of this study was to identify the perceived factors that influenced the academic success and the relationship between academic and performance achievement as music majors in Korean universities (N195). The Academic Success Inventory for Music Majors (A SIMM) was developed for investigating the academic success and the relationship between academic and performance achievement as music majors! The results of this study indicated that personal-effort factors, such as self-confidence, the motivation to be successful, and the practice of performance were perceived as the most influential factors impacting the academic success of music majors in Korean universities, while gifted factors, such as musical talents and IQ were perceived as the least influential factors, relatively. Also, the findings of this study pointed out that there was a significant correlation between the academic and performance achievement among the music majors in Korean universities (r=62: p<0l). Recommendation and conclusion were provided for music majors in Korean universities.
