Suggestions for Music Education of the Infants and Young Children from the New Perspectives of Child Psychology

ABSTRACT

In the current post-modern society, human beings have the enormous amount of scientific privileges in ordinary daily life. However we, human beings, are eager to experience artistic stimulus as well as artistic consumption. Besides adults, such social phenomenon applies to young children`s lives too in the formal educational system. The purpose of this study was to reconsider the necessity of music education for children aged under five from the new perspectives of child psychology in order to suggest early childhood music educational directions in practical settings. Related literatural review was utilized as research method. From the study, the findings were as follows; Firstly, from the review of past as well as current aspects on child psychology in relation to the educational philosophy, educational contents and teaching-learning methods, it was found that the educational focus changes from teaching-oriented approach into learning-oriented one. And music education was discussed as a possible educational solution for the people in modern society where materials were more emphasized than democracy and human equality. Secondly, the tips towards the teachers of the infants and young children in practical teaching setting were provided as a way to develop music education as an academic subject. In conclusion, teacher`s attention to the understanding of the children`s mind as well as teacher`s sensitivity on child`s feeling of happiness were required as the starting point of teaching and the pivot in the global society.
