A Study on Running Teaching Practice Classes for Piano Major Students

ABSTRACT

The purpose of the paper is to emphasize the needs for running teaching practice classes for piano major students and exploring effective ways of managing classes in order to help students to build up their knowledge, skills, and experiences of piano teaching. Many of piano major students have difficulties in piano teaching due to the lack of experiences and techniques. With the recognition of this kind of problem, the study ran teaching practice classes intended for piano major students on a trial basis. As a result, students showed deficiency in seven items including the abilities of pointing out problems and demonstration. Through this, the study emphasized the needs for running teaching practice classes. And suggestions were made to find effective ways of managing teaching practice classes and to develop students` teaching abilities. They include the methods of peer teaching, free discussion, and offering teacher training program for students.
