ABSTRACT

The purpose of this study is to outline the current trends of the philosophy of music education in North America. Drawing upon terminological regulation of philosophy of music, this paper tries to look over recent philosophical ideas which are found in the academic literature about music education. The author especially considers the emergence of this branch and the change of the overwhelming direction regarded as declining of aesthetic education in this field. This observation consequently shows a dualism of the philosophy in music education and still expects the development of a adequate philosophy of it.
