ABSTRACT

This study applies music teaching method which uses storytelling as a way of teaching notes and fingering of string instruments to children and analyzes the responses of children and teachers on it and its` meaning. Teachers let preschoolers and elementary school students learn notes by using their own language and giving meanings to it and also instructed them to link that to fingering of string instruments in a systemic fashion. Children used various nouns in getting used to notes such as names of things, foods, activities and toys. The strength of this method is that children are able to overcome the difficulty of manuscript and scores by making up their own story and using it for fingering. Teachers also had positive evaluation on this teaching method said the children were actively involved. Since this kind of teaching method for music with storytelling is not unified under a sole concept system, it will be more effective if we develop most universal and common standards and conceptual framework which suit best for the cognitive level of children and apply it to music education with additional studies.
