A Correlation between Career Exploration Experience, Career Decision Level and Career Development Competency of Undergraduate Music Major Students

ABSTRACT

The purpose of this study is to understand relations between career exploration experience, career decision level and career development competency, by conducting a survey targeting from freshmen though seniors majoring in music. The 303 subjects were selected from music students in 13 universities. The questionnaire consisted of 4 sections, that is general characteristics as a background variable, career exploration experience as an independent variable, and career decision level and career development competency as an independent variable. The following results were obtained from this study. First, career exploration experience showed a great impact on lifelong learning ability, ability of gathering and utilizing vocational and employment information, and networking skills. Second, career decision level, and career development competency in general characteristics such as students` grades, and majors showed no significant differences. Third, students` career decision level, and career development competency showed a negative (-) correlation while their sub-domains showed a positive (+) correlation each other.
