The purpose of this study was to examine the extent of American influences on music education during the period of the United States Army Military Government in Korea(USAMGIK) from September 1945 through August 1948. The historical research materials used in this study included the archival records of the USAMGIK Department of Education activities, the government documents, the music textbooks, and various articles. The major findings of this study were discussed in two aspects. The USAMGIK had considerable successes in bringing about the tangible results such as distributions of music textbooks, operations of teacher reeducation programs; however, the USAMGIK made much less effort institutionalizing the music teacher education department at university and paid little attention to the development of the Course of Study in music subject.
