A Study on an Analysis of the Korean Traditional Music Appreciation Area in the Authorized Music Textbook for Third to Fourth Grade Elementary School Students in the Revised 2009 Curriculum

ABSTRACT

The current music curriculum is going through the period in which the revised 2009 curriculum from the revised 2007 curriculum is being applied in schools. In particular, for the third to fourth grade elementary school students, the revised 2009 curriculum and the authorized textbook were introduced and applied first this year. One of the main characteristics of the revised 2009 music curriculum is an emphasis on appreciation education. Also in terms of the contents system, the appreciation area was separated additionally; thus, appreciation activity as basic music education has become emphasized greatly. Therefore, this study analyzed the Korean traditional music area of six types (volumes) of the authorized music textbook for third to fourth grade elementary school students in accordance with the revised 2009 curriculum which was newly revised and introduced, and proposed subsequent solutions for improvement. This will provide implications in the restructuring of the curriculum as well as in the development of the curriculum and textbook to be developed in the future for active Korean traditional music appreciation class.
