ABSTRACT

Singing may be said the foundation of music education because the first music many children make is with their voices, by simply vocalizing. However, students need first to find and then develop, the singing voice. Most children are not able to use singing voice simply because they have not learned yet how to use their voice other than for speaking. A singing voice is the only organic musical instrument that actually changes from birth to death. Current research indicates that the vocal ligament begins to function as an adult ligament somewhere between the ages of 10 and 12. With understandings of how the voice grows and develops from birth to age 10, and how it works, one may better understand how children``s voices are different from adult voices and to work with them. In this study, children``s singing voice was discussed with vocological point of view to address the necessity of teaching singing voice in music class.
