Action Research for Sight Singing and Ear Training program based on Multiple Intelligence Theory

ABSTRACT

The purpose of this study is to investigate the effectiveness of a Sight Singing and Ear Training program, developed by the author, based on Multiple Intelligence Theory after the author recognized the problems caused by different levels of students in an Sight Singing and Ear Training class of a university. For this action research, a new program comprised of a series of about 70 hours for Sight Singing and Ear Training was developed and applied to an actual class site in order to observe the effect of this program on university students. Based on Multiple Intelligence, this program was made using Armstrong``s educational strategies for the Musical Intelligence and the Interpersonal Intelligence. By participating in this program, students had developed not only their interests in understanding music but also Multiple Intelligence. It was observed that the developed Sight Singing and Ear Training program helped students develop their Musical Intelligence and Interpersonal Intelligence. In conclusion, this study shows that the new program can optimize students`` musical understanding and their Multiple Intelligence as the creative teaching methods towards the 21st century.
