E-portfolio for the Development of Music Teaching Competencies of Preservice Music Teachers

ABSTRACT

The purpose of this study is to recommend to build e-portfolio to develop the competencies of preservice music teachers in music teacher training programs based on analyzing e-portfolio case of two universities and one state in the United States. For the research, the literatures related to e-portfolio were reviewed and e-portfolios of BEST program of Connecticut State, the music education department of Pennsylvania State University, and music education department of Ball State University are analyzed and suggested the configuration plan of e-portfolio for the professional development of preservice music teachers in Korea. E-portfolio for the study is divided into four areas-teaching, instruction, learning, and music-and three principals- development, reflection and communication. It is focused for the development of competencies as music teachers through planing instruction, observing a music classes, and reflecting the process of music instruction. E-portfolio will contribute to the professional development of preservice music teachers and to the diversification and substantiality of music teacher education institutions.
