A Study of Actual Condition and Teacher`s Dependence of Educational Web-Sites in Elementary Music Class

ABSTRACT

The purpose of this study was to examine the usage of educational web-sites are being used in music classes and to investigate teacher’s dependence and teacher’s awareness of educational web-sites. The subjects were 140 people who are working at elementary schools in Gyeonggido, Daejeon, Chungnam, Gwangju and questionnaires were collected and analyzed a total of 130(92.9%). Results are as follows: First, 125(96.2%) of elementary school teachers are using educational web-sites in their music class and they use the i-Scream program most frequently. Second, the most of elementary school teachers positively responded that educational wed-sites provided the music teaching and learning material, material accuracy, educational consideration, ease of navigation for them. They also wanted to interact with web-site managers about their opinions for development of music class. Third, 102(78.4%) of elementary school teachers worried about the degradation of performance skill if they make frequent use of the educational web-site in their music class. However, it is not connected to the degradation of teachers’ teaching ability. Lastly, almost 80% of elementary teachers are using educational web-sites every week., 100(76.9%) of elementary teachers answered they use educational wed-sites when they do not have time to prepare for music class, and 62(47.7%) of elementary teachers hope to reduce duration of educational web-site usage. There is now a growing trend for teacher to use the educational web-sites in their class. The guidance of correct usage will be necessary the use of the educational web-sites for pre-service teachers in the teacher education institutions. Teacher training is also needed for field teachers regarding the use of the educational web-sites.
