A Study on Chinese Music Reflected in Korean Middle and High School Music Textbooks

ABSTRACT

The purpose of this study is to analyze the world ethnomusic reflected in the three typical Korean middle and high school music textbooks. Throughout this process, it aims at purposing the desirable way of multicultural music education to satisfy the demands of the times. And it will investigate the factors of Chinese culture reflected in Korean middle and high school music textbooks, provide the positive foundation to estimate mutual fusion and clash of Chinese culture and Korean traditional culture. Taking one with another, three typical Korean middle and high school music textbooks relatively well reflect the cultural factors of diverse countries. Those also deal with naturally the flows of recent multiculture. But Korean music textbooks skim the surface of Chinese culture and ethnomusic. Although the Korean music education fell under the profound influence of western music, considering the bilateral relationship between China and Korea, it deserves a critical pointing out that it is not sufficient.
