Development and Application of the Music Activity Program for Infants` Social-Emotional Development

ABSTRACT

The purpose of this study was to develop a music activity program for infant social-emotional development and to apply the program. Literature related to social-emotional development and musical activities of infants was analyzed, from which analysis, components of social-emotional development and musical activities of infants, teaching and learning methods, and the genres of infant``s musical activities were extracted. A program draft was complemented by its content validity and a preliminary study. To inquire the effect of the music activity program for infant social-emotional development, qualitative methods were used. Through the infants`` responses, the infants voluntarily showed sound exploration, body gestures and improvisations. They also expressed and changed their own feelings according to the musical concepts through music activities. In addition, infants did social interaction with others through music activities. They made physical contact with their teacher, participated in the same activities with their peers, and showed affection to peers through their interactions in a positive way.
