ABSTRACT

The purpose of this study was to examine the correlations between pre-service teacher`s music subject self-efficacy and previous experience about music education. The subjects of this study were 231 elementary pre-service teachers. The following are the findings of this study: Female`s score(75.1%) of previous experience music education are more high than male students(63.5%). When they start previous experience about music education, they were low elementary student(29.4%), and duration 4-6years(29.4%), and elementary pre-service teachers were the most experienced through the piano institution(61.9%). An independent-samples t-test was conducted to compare the music subject self-efficacy scores for elementary pre-service teachers. There was a significant difference in scores for elementary pre-service teachers who have experience previous music education(M = 78.02, SD = 8.06) and who do not have experience previous music education, M = 73.61, SD = 9.63; t (229) = 3.08, p = .02. The relationship between elementary pre-service teacher`s music subject self-efficacy and previous experience about music education was investigated using Pearson product-moment correlation coefficient. There was a medium correlation between the two variables, r = .36, n =189, p < .0005.
