ABSTRACT

The purpose of this study is to derive the educational significance by exploring the use of Musicals for Culture and Arts Education from a viewpoint of Mezirow`s Transformative Learning. As Mezirow is called a initiator of Transformative Learning, his philosophy is characterized by the learning for transition through an event or experience that transforms an individual`s beliefs and attitudes into a more positive direction. Musicals can be an artistic educational method that has various educational meanings by integrating music, literature, and plays into learning activities related to experiences, critical reflections, rational discourses, and actions, which are the transformation factors of meaning perspectives in Transformative Learning. Therefore, the use of musicals related to Transformative Learning has an instrumental meaning for psychotherapy, a practical meaning for the whole person education, and an integrated meaning for Culture and Arts Education. Furthermore, it also provides an educational implication that it can be a more active way for realizing educational goals on Culture and Arts Education for adults as the lifelong education.
