Strategies Used by College Applied Piano Majors during the Practice and Learning of Piano Music

ABSTRACT

The purpose of this study is to identify the practice attitude and the strategies college applied piano major students use during the practice and learning of piano music using ‘Scale for Strategies Used during the Practice and Learning of Instrumental Music((UygunandKılınçer,2017)’and the revised survey of Kostka(2002).The study group comprised of 123 college applied piano major students at three universities located in Busan·Gyeongnam area. Results are as follow: First, students regard musicality and technique as the most important skills to learn in practice. Second,students’levels of rehearsal strategies(m=3.47)were the highest and the levels of elaboration strategies(m=(2.87) were the lowest. Third, students’levels of using strategies in all five groups showed significant differences according to practice duration and how they feel about practice. Furthermore,students’levels of using comprehension monitoring strategies showed significant differences according to whether they follow a specific practice routine, and students’levels of using attention strategies and elaboration strategies showed sign if i cant differences according to lesson experience
