Purpose: This study was performed to analyze the standard curriculum and to suggest an improvement plan of the Jazz and Contemporary Music program for the academic credit bank system in Korea. Methods: A retrospective study was used and data was collected in April, 2018. A total of 43 educational institutions opening the 77 leaning subjects of Jazz and contemporary Music program for the academic credit bank system in 2017 was included in this study. Descriptive statistics, independent t-test, chi-square test and Pearson correlation analysis were performed using the SPSS WIN 24. 0 program. Result: The current status, such as the total number of learning subjects really opened and the number of students who took each leaning subject in 2017 were described. Also, each subjective was classified by several guidelines and the relations of variables were provided. Conclusion: Through the empirical and scientific approach, this paper suggested six improvement plans including re-arrangement of previous leaning subjects and development of new learning subjects. These suggestions can be used in developing an effective curriculum for the Jazz and Contemporary Music program using the academic credit bank system in Korea.
