Development and Implementation of Jazz Chord s Sight Singing and Ear Training Program Through the Shape of Musical Intervals

ABSTRACT

The purpose of this study is to develop and implement a sight singing and ear training program through the shape of musical intervals and to identify the possibility and effectiveness of its field application. Utilizing Affektenlehre and Color and Emotional Effect Theory, which are theoretical backgrounds of this study, it developed the program through the emotional and visual shape of musical intervals, which had been conducted for approximately 16 hours. With the experiment, the study could figure out the effect of the program and the change of learners who had taken the program. Application of the program resulted in the learners improvement in sight singing and ear training skills and formation of positive learning attitude as well. Therefore, applying and supplementing it to Jazz scale, not limited to musical intervals, will help develop more diverse and creative methods of teaching a sight singing and ear training skills.
