An Analysis of the Connection between Music Listening Activities and other Subjects in the Elementary Music Textbooks according to the 2015 Revision of Curriculum

ABSTRACT

The purpose of this study was to analyze the contents of activities focousing on appreciation of Western music in the third through sixth grade elementary school music textbooks published in 2018 and 2019. The results are as follows: As integration with other art forms, dance and art are presented in the entire music textbooks of grades 3-6, but the amount are less in grades 5-6 than grades 3-4. In connection with other subjects, humanities were presented in grades 3-4 and humanities, social, and natural sciences in grades 5-6. It is difficult to find or only a few presented music appreciation activities integrating with theatre and movie areas.
