Relationships between Pre-Service Music Teachers’ Achievement Goals and Career Adaptability: Focusing on the Role of Their Music Teacher Efficacy

ABSTRACT

The purpose of this study is to investigate the relationships among pre-service music teachers’ achievement goals, career adaptability, and music teacher efficacy. The study also aims to examining the mediating effects of their music teacher efficacy on the relationship between their achievement goals and career adaptability. The data were collected from 156 undergraduate music major students from E university for one week during the spring semester, 2018. The first finding was that the higher mastery goal oriented and performance approach goal oriented, the higher career adaptability and music teacher efficacy. The second finding was that for mastery goal oriented students, their music teacher efficacy partially mediates the relationship between their mastery goal orientation and career adaptability. The third finding was that for those with teaching practicum taken, their music teacher efficacy partially mediates the relationship between their performance approach goals and career adaptability.
