ABSTRACT

The purpose of this study was to develop a program for implementing Education for Sustainable Development through problem-based learning in music education. A literature review established theoretical foundations for linking music education, ESD, and PBL, leading to the design of a “PBL-based music-centered ESD teaching-learning model.” The study then analyzed 14 elementary(Grades 3-4), 26 middle school(Grade 7), and 10 high school(Grade 10) music textbooks from the 2022 revised curriculum, using SDG3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 11, 13, 14, 15, and 16 within the environmental, social, and cultural categories as the analytical framework. Based on the textbook analysis results and achievement standards for each school level, hierarchical drafts of program themes and an outline for achieving SDG 13 were developed and refined through expert consultation. The finalized program provided examples across three integrating ESD into music education. Furthermore, this study was distinguished by its development of school-level programs integrated with the international educational objective of achieving the SDGs, and is expected to contribute to establishing a practical foundation for the implementation of music-centered ESD.
